julien de smedt architects has received honorable mention for their proposal of the
taipei pop music centre. the firm felt the image of the music center should be able to present
the free essence and unique lifestyle of the pop music scene. designing a building that differs
from the typical iconic buildings found in the city of taipei, they proposed a space where
events and activities become a symbol in themselves. the concept was to provide an open
framework which generates a constant flow of information exchange, performance and activity.
