american firm studio gang architects have designed the aqua tower in chicago.
the building's sculptural form allows for views and solar shading. its vertical topography
is defined by its outdoor terraces that gradually change plan over the length of the tower.
when viewed obliquely the building transforms into a slender rectangle from a distance.

I would think that I wouldn't like this at all. But it's got a type of beauty and awe to it. I would love to drive into Chicago from a distance and see that figure look like it moves and changes.

beautiful form up close and from a distance but what about the massive thermal bridging of the cantilevered concrete balconies - sure they provide shade but in the winter the conduct a significant amount of cold into each unit.

Agreeing with NoxMortalitus. Relly didnīt think i would like it. But Yes i do! I really do:) Smart!

I think I am in the other camp. I was quite convinced by the earlier renderings of this project but on closer inspection I am appalled at some of the details and general space making. In essence the architecture has not been reconciled with the form making... unfortunately
architechnophilia   11.24.09
very simple design and concept especially when you look from close as details in the balcony..but if it seen from distance looks incredible ..the shape and the flow..really looks like water flowing..luv it!
adiastuti irawan   11.24.09
Formally it's indeed a beautiful building.

But for a project this size (budget) those are really poor detailed balconies.
sullka   11.24.09
simple idea and stunning effect. i like it very much.
