hugon kowalski of polish firm H3AR architecture and design recently created
'instant house' for an international student competition in milan. the theme was that
of a temporary residential mini unit, linked to the presence of young people with high
levels of territorial mobility connected to particular metropolitan events.

the concept includes concrete cylinders, made from styrofoam concrete (which increases
the acoustics and insulation and is twelve times lighter than normal concrete). this concrete
contains TI02, which will reduce air pollution. in 2014 it will be possible to produce
concrete from rice husks which reduce carbon dioxide emissions during the making process.

ONLY ONE PROBLEM: HOW TO INTRODUCE THE FURNITURE?
bravo   12.23.09
you have to grow the furniture inside.... just add water
JM   12.23.09
like living in a lighthouse. nothing more isolated and lonely. supposed to be inhabited by youngsters/students eager to share time with mates and be part of a community.
nice scenario for some sci-fi "lost a like" serial.
Japr   12.23.09
it's so ugly and claustrophobic I would'n live in it. It looks like punishment facility
muchacha   12.23.09
good question! i dont think is possible put furniture in by the windows.. by the way, better if it were beautiful, but even if is not, it works! and thats what we need now!

IF you had no shelter, it would look pretty fancy to you!
hb   12.23.09
This thing is assembled in parts - meaning - put furniture in by crane after attaching the level the furniture will be used in.

Amazing idea for workers moving from jobsite to jobsite so as not to use gas getting there? I imagine highway construction/wilderness development sites?
ModernCowboy   12.23.09
super cool! If you want it to work it will work. i agree with ModernCowboy on the rest.
OWL   12.24.09
not suitable for kids, seniors, people with disabilities and pets.
LUNOHOD   12.24.09
This is a great example of what bad design is. seriously, not even a married man could get laid in this thing!

In the third world people will be to glad to get a home like this, in communities were the people don’t have furniture in the mud hut (house) or in the traditional homes Sleeping on the ground and cooking on the ground. People that live 1000 miles away and culture and economic state that is not material driven. Millions of people will benefit ,improving the quality of life for them

where is emergency exit?
soo   12.24.09
designed for "young people with high levels of territorial mobility connected to particular metropolitan events" it's a bad proposal because:

1.using concrete, moving units from event to event and having no waste treatment is not very ecological

2. insuficient ventilation (big arrows in the drawing will not make the air move for real), you'll need cross ventilation and bigger window areas or mechanical air input/output

3. ventilation pipes from the bathroom/kitchen go where? forget to continue on the upper plan levels

4. no storage

5. How much would it cost to rent/maintain? I guess far more than camping in a tent ...
jo   12.24.09
probably a container would do that twice as good....
O_o   12.25.09
Good inspiration for an Horror-Psyco-Future-Hollywood-Movie :-)

excessive proposal= a lot of comments
maurice   12.27.09
just boring.
mars   12.27.09
simply useless. very comfortable ladder to climb with supermarket bags(?!). Come on.. there are so many projects to post, so much better than this..
