hart van zuid is an industrial area in the city of hengelo in the netherlands.
it is currently being redeveloped and is typically defined by the saw tooth shed.
the area will be converted into a living quarter and mixed use environment,
as well as maintaining the high tech industrial activities.

for their design of the new siemens building in hart van zuid, NL architects based
their concept on the existing structures of the saw tooth design, flipping
the building vertically.

looks awful
ann   01.03.10
which program did they use for the renders?
Obelix   01.03.10
if that were a south facing facade, they'd be getting the benefit of reduced solar gain. but it looks to be east-facing?
LML   01.03.10
yea this things facade doesn't even work, even it was south facing it would be shitty for the winter months because the angle is too steep.

no didnt like it old thinking to modern area

Unfortunately, the historical saw tooth design pictured above had the windows facing the all same direction (presumably and typically north) to capture the ambient lighting. Maybe instead of just ripping old architecture for shapes and lines, a little bit of homework should have been done and used the design for its traditional functional use.

what a totally boring building that lives in the past.

its okay if the form doesnt do anything. at least a witty perspective on materiality?

the elevation with the saw tooth profile looks to me like a crude version of Utzon's Hammershoj tower block
