located in one of istanbul’s most populated and diverse neighborhoods, besiktas is an
eclectic area with a village-like atmosphere that is in the process of urban renewal.
the besiktas fish market is located on a triangular site. it is an iconic venue where many
locals and visitors buy fresh fish daily. the construction of the old fish market was in very
poor shape and needed to be replaced.

the design solution was to maintain its iconic neighborhood presence, while also
reaffirming its welcoming feeling. GAD (global architectural development) designed
a triangular shaped concrete shell covering the entire site with large openings at street level.
the concrete shell provides a column-free interior space, optimizing the project’s programmatic
needs. the new design injects a contemporary and pragmatic solution, at once preserving
the fish market’s history.

aren't those lights going to be in the way?!?

That doesnt look out of place at all.

The structure is in my opinion too present, it totally denies its surroundings. They only thought of the market but forgot the people who live around this place. These architects should check the following blog
experiencingarchitecture
maybe then they will make something that is dedicated to all the users and viewers.

Plain in a good way...nice to see architecture that looks so much better at the ground plane rather from the usual 'gods eye' perspective, and love the contrast of integration to the surroundings.

It like a slick, modern, New York fish market got lost in downtown Istanbul. Its a beautiful structure! I really love it but not here.

além de estar fora do contexto local, essa ESCULTURA não condiz com o caráter simplista de um mercado de peixes
