kotaro horiuchi: funeral hall, nagoya

exterior

kotaro horiuchi architecture has designed a funeral hall set along a busy street in nagoya, japan.
the structure is made from reinforced concrete and consists of two blocks or 'headstones'
positioned on top of one another, with a cantilevered second floor. the facade is composed
of heavy stones and aluminum which has many holes in which light can filter through the building.
these perforations in the exterior skin cast shadows during daylight within the interior,
changing as time goes by.
