reiser + umemoto: taipei pop music center

'taipei pop music center'
new york based architects reiser + umemoto's have been named the winners for their proposal
of the
'taipei pop music center'. from large scale performance halls to a myriad of shops
and cafés, the taipei pop music center is defined to be a cultural hub dedicated to the
production and reception of taiwanese pop music. it will be completed by 2014.

'taipei pop music center'
the complex is defined by three major zones: the main concert hall,
the outdoor amphitheater and the hall of fame.

the main hall features a 3000-seat indoor auditorium and a tower dedicated to the pop
music industry. the inclusion of these facilities hopes to encourage direct communication
between music producers and artist, bringing production and performance under one roof.

the outdoor amphitheater combines the concept of circus and city with its mobile stage.
the robot theatre can adapt to a spectrum of event scales. the four docking positions along
the elevated public ground can accommodate a range of audiences from 16000 to smaller
shows operating simultaneously with other functions such as night markets. in its most compact
crystalline form, the robot theater docks with the hall of fame creating a more intimate performance
space. a technological net provides solar screening and LED lighting to the outdoor amphitheater,
and connects the hall of fame, the robot theater and the main hall together.

the hall of fame consists of the main exhibition space, digital media centre, two lecture
halls and the sky view lounge with commanding views of the entire event venue.
this space will be dedicated to music performances, hall of fame induction ceremonies
and media projections. lining the street adjacent to the hall of fame are smaller live houses
for smaller scale performances and a street front that connects visitors directly
to the street life of taipei.
