kokkugia is an architecture studio based in new york and london. fibrous tower is one of the studio’s
most recent project exploring structures based on fibrous skeletons. the series of studies is based on
algorithmic design methodologies, exploring ornamental, structural and spatial order through this lens.
‘this project compresses the structural and tectonic hierarchies of contemporary tower design into a
single shell whose articulation self-organizes in response to an often conflicting set of criteria.‘ the shell
itself is load bearing, allowing each floor to be column free. however the design goes beyond structure
verging into the realm of performance and ornament. over the length of the tower, the shell thickens
creating small spaces for circulation or vertical gardens.

Has anyone learned from the World Trade Center collapse? Why would possibly design a tower that has a load bearing envelope? It doesn't make sense! If you have a failure on the structure, the whole building is going to fail. You need to distribute that load throughout the floor plan. Maybe for large scale projects, but not for towers.....uggh!
