kengo kuma: casalgrande ceramic cloud
with japanese architect, kengo kuma, to develop 'casalgrande ceramic cloud'. a combination
of architecture and land art, the installation is designed by kuma and made by casalgrande padana.

rendering of the ceramic cloud
the work is a three-dimensional construction which experiments with the latest-generation
of applications for ceramic units. it is made from special, large-glazed stoneware tiles,
mechanically anchored to a specially-designed metal frame. in its entirety, the installation
is over 40 metres long and 7 metres high, and looks like an architectural object.
it is set in a communal green area of over 28,000 metres, located on the new strada pedemontana
located next to the company's production site in the municipality of casalgrande,
acting as a landmark of the east gate, regional ceramic district of lombardia. this is the first project
for casalgrande to be made by the japanese architect in italy. another is underway and will be
finished before next summer.

an installation such as this should press the bounds of material and form and this looks to be an exciting project. it's good to see a ceramics product company commission something like this.
