'giraffe', lifeguard cabins

microarquitectura works as a collective, grouping together chilean architects
and academics whose primary purpose is thinking about the possibilities of
the discipline beyond the design of simple objects.

architect javier basualdo of the group sent in images of their latest work 'giraffe',
lifeguard cabins located on the beaches of coquimbo, in the north of chile.
for the structure they based their design on the shape of giraffes.

Chilean regular cabins are concrete based wooden structures, with very low life, and high space volume when they are storaged.
The Giraffe allow us to put at the beach a modular structure wich leave no traces over there when they are not needed, since all of their components are totally prefabricated. Plus, it reduces the storaging space in 80%.
And Mr. banderas... well he allow us to give the Giraffes to the community for free...
