before the year comes to a close we would like to draw readers' attention to two initiatives:

for the first edition of the IDF awards (india design forum award) in 2013, designs produced
within the last 5 years (2008 - 2012) are eligible for application. designboom is proud to be partner
in this new indian national design awards program, to promote design excellence and disseminating
in the country a culture for the production and manufacture of high-value products. participation is open
to applicants from india, mainly indian companies and design professionals, but also indian citizens living abroad.
in the concept section participation is open to indian students and design-enthusiasts.

'motion'
is the theme of the LEXUS DESIGN AWARD 2012, a brand new international design competition to help
nurture next generation innovators, initiated by the premium car brand from japan in collaboration with designboom.
our daily lives are continuously filled with 'motion'. the 'motion' of things, the 'motion' of people. moving people’s hearts.
shifting consciousness. moving information, society and time. triggering chain reactions…
the creators of 10 awarded works will be invited to the milan design week in april 2013,
and the two final winners will receive up to five million yen (more than 60.000 USD)
each to cover costs of prototype execution, under the direction of two mentors:
world-famous designers/architects sam hecht (UK) and junya ishigami (japan).
the TOP jury includes paola antonelli, aric chen, jaime hayon,and toyo ito
(in addition to kiyotaka ise, president of LEXUS and birgit lohmann, editor-in-chief designboom).

we welcome designers from all fields: architecture, product design, fashion...

the india design forum (IDF) in collaboration with designboom celebrates india's vibrantly dynamic creative scene
and identifies the best in various design disciplines. the IDF awards program seeks to increase national awareness
of design by educating the public and honoring excellence, innovation, and lasting achievement.
this award will also give opportunities to be featured by newspapers, online publications and design print magazines
f rom all over the world. for this first edition in 2013 designs produced within the last 5 years (2008 - 2012)
are eligible for application. participation is open to applicants from india, mainly indian companies and design professionals,

LEXUS DESIGN AWARD 2012



designboom in collaboration with LEXUS

the theme for the LEXUS DESIGN AWARD 2012 is motion.
our daily lives are continuously filled with motion. the motion of things, the motion of people. moving people’s hearts.
shifting consciousness. moving information, society and time. leaving lingering effects. triggering chain reactions.
how to define motion is up to you. we’re looking for design that responds to various issues in daily life in relation
to motion and provides solutions.
the creators of the 2 winning entries will receive up to five million yen each to cover prototype production over a period of about two months.
the two prototypes, and panel displays for the other eight-awarded designs, will be exhibited in the LEXUS space in the milan design week, april 2013. 
during the two-month production period of the prototypes, the creators of two selected entries will each be given the opportunity
to have sessions with a famous designer acting as a mentor.
sam hecht and junya ishigami will serve as the mentors for the first LEXUS DESIGN AWARD.
