holly's logo --- ![]() holly sent us her personal logo: objectives: be simple, readable, used across multidisciplines (I may want to use one logo for different areas i'm involved in ie. Interiors, makeup, art and graphics) and to say something about my personality instantly. The cube idea developed from an idea I had for a website that would showcase my work by having a series of cubes along one side of the screen. Some of them would be link keys to view work, so when rolled over with the mouse, would become highlight and clicked on to see more of the work. This is what started the initial idea, of how to create my name or identity using cubes. The colours were used as inspiration taken from a graphic that I love purely for the colours. I am incredibly drawn to that pink and everyone who knows me know how much I love it. I then began to look at the logo by manipulating my initials. Now I am slightly unsure of what direction to head! --- see a bigger image here please give your feedback in the comments!
how do i get my work featured in publications? --- ![]() david from the self promo course wrote to us asking: "I noticed yesterday the "daily coverage" section at designboom's webpage featured a project by french architects LAN. Today I noticed another LAN project is being featured! Wow! are these guys good at self-promotion or what? Don't get me wrong, there work is very nice, but I was wondering how does this work? How does designboom choose what is featured? How do other sites and magazines choose what is being published? Is it paid advertisement? Is it an editorial decision? I also noticed how sometimes a project is published in a magazine, let's say L'Architecture d'Aujourd'hui, a month later the same project is published in Architectural Review and then 2 months later it's published in Architectural Record. It would be interesting for us to know how to do this, who should you contact, what does a letter of request look like (if that's the protocol) and what to expect. What are the current prices, how do you get an interview, etc Just thinking it would be good to have an idea of what the "real world" of promotion is really like. What do my classmates think? " non of the articles / blogs featured on designboom are paid advertising. the reason why you see much of the same content across different design publications is because each magazine or blog will have been sent the same press release or attended the same event etc. bear in mind most design publications are seeking out the same readership and there is only so many designers / new projects that people want to read about - so publications feel they should include them in their content. some magazines will offer advertising in the form of an article - but it's becoming less common as there is so much free content available now - its usually possible for designers to get some level of exposure for free if their work is good enough. advertising can be very expensive in fields such as fashion, a magazine like vogue offers companies a huge platform to promote themselves and thus it's very costly, ads will go into many tens of thousands of dollars - even more. just look at a publication such as vogue and you'll see it's mostly ads. that said publications will give cheaper rates or even free advertising to brands they want to be aligned with. so a new luxury magazine might offer free advertising to an established designer but charge a lot of money to a younger unknown one. when a new mag / blog appears and has a roster of ads for big name companies usually they will have given them the ad space for free to help promote themselves more than anybody else whereas most ads you see on an established website with large readership will probably have been paid for, it's hard to say because each publication does business their own way. real world promotion for new designers generally involves a lot of e-mailing and telephone calls promoting their work - done by themselves or a PR company. in the end it's down to the quality of the work or unsurprisingly, in some cases personal connections. these points are mentioned in more detail in various self promo lessons, particularly: lesson 17: the blogsphere, which we'll publish shortly.

freddy's logo --- ![]() freddy sent us his logo designs: I want to my logo: be simple, be slim, modern-looking, readable, 3d application(for possible objects), electric and dynamic colors, provide my name as a designer, as an artist. The reason of the selected logo is: 1. Elegant, simple, stylish, structure from my initials 2. Eeasy symbol of Remembrance, developed from the initials FD, a cross as a positive symbol. 3. Variation of the logo 1. By rotating my initials creates a human silhouette that I see as the representation of the user, the human being, the main thrust of industrial design. 4. My name in a box, capsule or envelope surface which denotes stability, security. The colors: I chose the electric blue and fuchsia color that are dynamic, energetic. The electric blue is emotion, high Voltage, is also calm, consistency, accuracy, communicative and creative. the fuchsia is energetic, vibrant, positive, creative, represents the sweet side. gray is stable, neutral, independent, self-control. you can see a bigger image here - please give feedback in the comments.
