TAPIO WIRKKALA (1915 - 1985) he worked actively as a designer in various sectors but he preferred glass. in the mid sixties venini appointed the finnish artist wirkkala to work with traditional techniques. the 'incalmo' procedure consisted of combining two molten masses of different colored glass, it was used by wirkkala to create many polychrome works. at a first glance the vases and bottles appear to be cleanly split into two distinct pieces by the play of colors. |
