dutch firm NEXT architects has realized the ‘shouxi building’, an apartment complex located at the old city center of fuzhou, china. the site itself presented complications which resulted in the U shaped floor plan to accommodate the 400 apartments of 45-110 sqm in size. the iridescent façade is reminiscent of the  ‘shouxi or seal stone’ that the area is known for, and at night, the rhythmic form is illuminated by lights. to establish diversity within the large number of similar apartments, the balconies and exterior spaces are molded around the building and manipulated to create a sense of individuality.
