british architect david adjaye has continued his collaboration with knoll with the launch of the newest additions to his washington collection, comprising of a suite of lounge pieces. translating his architectural vision into accessible design for the home, the ‘prism’ series explores the interplay of light and form to produce the multifaceted pieces which use geometry to occupy space

consisting of a a swiveling lounge chair, ottoman and side table, each uses a base of a glossy core laminate shell, and comes in three colors: red, white or black. ‘the formal language is shared with some of the buildings I am currently working on,’ says adjaye. ‘there is a common line of inquiry, and it has presented an opportunity to express my position in terms of materials, silhouettes and forms.’

the sculptural form of the furniture series gives any interior a strong presence, and were developed through investigating the theme of mass and heft. ‘with prism, I was seeking something very different. I wanted to reference the weight and mass of the idea of monument and I sought to celebrate the material presence of these forms.’ explains adjaye. the lounge chair unexpectedly has the function to twist which inevitably brings a sense of lightness to the heavy form.
