the stockholm furniture & light fair‘s greenhouse program provides a platform for young creatives and students of selected design schools to exhibit their product prototypes and research to manufacturers and industry professionals.

fabien barrero + carsenat created ‘pinus pinaster’, a set of cheese cover sets made molded from pine rosin. each handmade so that no two are the same, their appearance is derived from the natural amber coloration of the tree residue which has been collected via a traditional process originating from les landes, in the south of france.

the work is the outcome of the french designer’s historical and chemical exploration of this rough material – considering sustainability and eco-friendly design approaches in the process of developing the various objects – whose uncontrolled results and imperfections provide a unique material identity and aesthetic dimension.

the various moulds for forming the cheese covers

the application of the viscous substance for food preservation is appropriate, the anti-bacterial and fungicidal properties found within aiding in the maturation of cheese. the covers are accompanied by three different wooden trays, each one displaying unique characteristics: cedar – strong perfumed, recommended for individuals who want their cheese flavored and preserved longer; cherry – aesthetic  tray for smooth and delicate taste; hornbeam – neutral tray which does not carry any additional smells.
