using voids to contain umbrellas and collect bodies of water, new york-based design studio cmmnwlth have developed a topographic ‘umbrella stand’ with milled contours of natural landscapes. solid blocks of hardwood receive inset grooves for flush placement of the thin bent ply rails – giving structure to the holder. on stormy days, excess liquids would fill the voids to create miniature a lake-like scenery.
