AllesWirdGut designs Waterdrop’s new store in Germany

Austrian architectural practice AllesWirdGut has recently designed a new flagship store for waterdrop® – an international brand renowned for selling fruit-extract granulate cubes and high-quality drinking bottles. Located near Cologne Cathedral, the design of the two-story shop draws inspiration from the ceiling heights of the leased space, reflecting the brand’s minimalistic character. A vertical wooden shelf system spans the store, harmonizing both aesthetic and practical functionality. The wooden construction forms a ground-floor portal, resembling the Japanese Shinto shrine’s entrance represented by a torii gate. Behind the floor-to-ceiling glass facade, the structure creates a welcoming entrance, housing oversized sales displays, built-in screens, drawer modules, and multifunctional presentation areas.

The slender oakwood design continues in a more minimalistic form on the upper level, highlighting accessories against the backdrop of an expansive shop window. This subtle continuation offers a refined contrast to the stone-like grey-sprinkled flooring, harmoniously complementing the wooden fixtures. Additionally, minimalistic counter islands with integrated sinks reinforce waterdrop®‘s emphasis on water. With this considerate design approach, the architects sought to establish a connection with the brand’s focus on water-centric products and themes throughout the space.
