Samsung and Maison Margiela unveil Galaxy Z Flip5 smartphone
For the second time, Samsung and Parisian fashion house Maison Margiela have paired up, this time to design the new haute couture Galaxy Z Flip5 smartphone. The foldable smartphone has a rear glass that showcases the stitching and inner seams of a Maison Margiela jacket, enhanced by the silver and metallic effects. This is a color exclusive to this new special edition, which creates a semi-transparent effect that unveils the hidden structure and zoomed-in details of the garment.
Samsung and Maison Margiela’s new haute couture Galaxy Z Flip5 smartphone also comes with a Flap Leather Case, which spotlights natural black leather, woven fabric, and genuine fabric logo labels. The crafted, handwoven stitching on the cover’s back hints at Maison Margiela’s ‘Work-in-Progress’ design identity, and if the user flaps the device open, it reveals the pocket pattern, while closing it hides the pronounced design. The Galaxy Z Flip5 Maison Margiela edition will be available from November 30th in select markets.
Haute couture, from smartphone covers to packaging
Another cover named Flipsuit Case can surprise the fans of Samsung and Maison Margiela once they unbox the new haute couture Galaxy Z Flip5 smartphone. The case comes with two cards, one with a paint splatter design and another with just a silver plate. These cards have the unique numbering design of Maison Margiela. When the user attaches one of these cards to the back of their Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 smartphone, it transforms the device’s theme entirely. The new theme is displayed on the Flex Window of the foldable smartphone, which is inspired by Maison Margiela’s Artisanal collection.
Even the packaging of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip5 smartphone reflects Maison Margiela’s style with the fashion house’s signature stitching pattern in the center of the flap. It is meant to resemble sample storage used in atelier stores where different fabric samples and threads are kept. The exterior of the package is covered in a paper-based woven book cloth fabric, making it look like it belongs in Maison Margiela’s workshop. Overall, users can toy with their Galaxy Z Flip5 smartphone using the Flap Leather Case, Flipsuit Case, or two Flipsuit Cards included in the box.
The Galaxy Z Flip5 smartphone is Samsung and Maison Margiela’s second collaboration, following their haute couture edition of Galaxy Z Flip4 back in 2022. Here, the device takes a step back from loud visuals with Maison Margiela’s signature white color, at times with shades of gray, leading the design of the cases and the packaging. There still was a leather cover, but the recent smartphone collaboration dropped the 2022’s numeric coding ring cover. Both covers were completed with the fashion house’s signature four-stitches emblem.
