mars curiosity rover self-portrait panorama
captured at the foot of NASA’s mars curiosity rover, an interactive sweeping panoramic view of the robot’s view has become available to the public – taken at the site where the first shallow drill test hole was conducted. based in the yellowknife bay region of the red planet’s gale crater, the mosaic was constructed using frames from the rover’s ‘mars hand lens imager’ (MAHLI) and mastcam. the MAHLI frames used to create the self-portrait exclude sections that show the arm itself, making the rendering system invisible in the composition. for the full experience, you can go here to view the 360 degree image in its full glory.
