nao.design’s compact electric monowheel transforms from skateboard to gyro scooter
nao.design implements a modular magnetic system, allowing the device to split into two independent units for customizable urban commutes.
nao.wheel redefines urban mobility with adaptability
The nao.wheel by nao.design is an electric monowheel that redefines urban mobility by transforming to match each commuter’s needs. ‘As our cities grow and evolve, so must the ways we navigate them,’ notes the Delaware-based team. Recognizing that urban commutes often involve bridging the ‘last mile’ between public transit stops and final destinations, the nao.wheel presents a compact, electric solution that provides optimal agility and adaptability.
Designed with the modern commuter in mind, it offers solutions that are both practical and sustainable, emphasizing the need for greener transportation options in fast-paced cityscapes. Various modes are offered, such as a single or dual-wheel setup, skateboard, or gyro scooter, embodied within a futuristic, metallic lilal aesthetic that nods to classic automotive aesthetics.

nao.design implements modular magnetic systems
The nao.wheel balances versatility, functionality, style, and environmental consciousness. Its full-circle backlight enhances visibility and adds a playful touch, ensuring safety and style in all lighting conditions. nao.design further implements a modular magnetic system, allowing the device to split into two independent units or convert into a skateboard or gyro scooter. With this adaptability, riders can tailor their experience, whether for individual use, sharing with a friend, or tackling challenging terrains.
The circular arrangement of accumulators, secured with specialized fasteners, ensures even weight distribution, improving balance and extending battery life while prioritizing safety. Beyond its design and mobility solutions, the nao.wheel also embodies a commitment to a greener future. By offering an efficient and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional vehicles, it encourages a shift towards reduced carbon emissions while presenting a more engaging way to experience city life. The designers‘ attention to detail has earned the vehicle recognition, including the prestigious Red Dot Design Award.
