‘chongqing greenland clubhouse’ by PURE design

in hong’en temple forest park, halfway up the side of a mountain the chongqing greenland clubhouse faces the jialing river with a dramatically pitched roof that meets the ground at its center. one of twenty three commercial buildings, the real estate sales center has quickly become the medium of dialogue between river and mountain. the two levels of the building stagger over the sloped site, complete with a steep entrance and riverfront terrace. while the first storey is used as an exhibit and sales space, the glass box elegantly envelops the space with crisp rectangularity. the second level abstracts the form of the mountain, stretching triangular shapes to form an undulating silhouette. slate-colored zinc cladding complements the sfumato translucency of the glazing, while reflecting the tranquil, meandering waterway. the architecture expresses the dual nature of the site, using material to compose volumes and circulation to direct the landscape. the building is alternately a boat setting sail fromthe hillside or a jewel box from a watery distance.
