marsotto edizioni: just black collection at milan design week 2013

with a strong 150 year family history, marsotto has been devoted to shaping marble, developing exclusive furnishings for a number of international luxury hotel chains, ships, residences, retail and urban design spaces. working with an entrepreneurial approach, in wanting to expand and elaborate on their entrepreneurial approach, marsotto edizioni was born in 2009, its main purpose being that of shaping carrara marble into everyday timeless objects which can be passed on from generation to generation. with each year, the marsotto edizioni family of multifunctional pieces has grown and now encompasses furniture pieces–as a bookshelf, side and dining tables — as well as small scale designs like fruit bowls, book ends and an umbrella stand, the concepts for the new works conceived by a select group of international designers. for 2013, art director james irvine decided that everything should be ‘just black’, producing the white carrara marble pieces in black marquina, transforming them into something mysterious– exuding a certain type of elegance. showcased during milan design week 2013, the objects are all the same in terms of their proportions and design intentions, however their silhouettes appear a bit sharper, bolder and more refined.
