Amble One is a street legal electric buggy designed for short trips across resorts, islands, campuses, and low-speed communities. Developed by Portugal-based mobility company Amble, the vehicle sits between a beach car, golf cart, and compact EV, with an open frame, cork details, and a top speed capped at 40 mph.

The project is led by a team with experience across hospitality, industrial design, e-bikes, and creative direction. José António Uva brings a resort-world perspective, Adrien Roose comes from Cowboy, Michael Tropper is known through the London studio forpeople, and industrial designer Julian Hoenig has worked across Audi and Apple. Together, they frame the Amble One as a lightweight electric vehicle for journeys where a full-size car feels oversized.

Amble One keeps its structure exposed, with an open frame, flat windscreen, canvas roof, and broad stance over rugged tires. Julian Hoenig has pointed to NASA’s lunar rover as a reference, and the connection reads through the visible electric platform. There is a skateboard-like base, four wheels, and a set of functional elements placed on top with very little bodywork hiding the system below.

That restraint gives the buggy its character. Aluminum, leather, cotton, and cork shape the cabin, while large orange screws mark the parts that can be removed or reconfigured. The dashboard bar uses the same diameter as motorcycle handlebars, allowing standard bike accessories to attach directly. A cork-clad steering wheel softens the touchpoint, adding a distinctly Portuguese material detail that makes it feel like a piece of furniture.

Amble One is fully road legal in both the US and EU, with a top speed capped at 40 mph and a range of more than 60 miles. It charges from a standard home socket in about five hours and stays below 450 kilograms, a threshold that helps it qualify within Europe’s L7e vehicle category. The weight limit shapes the design as much as the open-air feeling does.

The first use cases point toward hospitality. Resorts including Amangiri in Utah, Mustique Island, and Six Senses Les Bordes in the Loire Valley are among the early customers, with initial deliveries planned for 2027. In these settings, the buggy becomes part of the guest route between villas, beaches, restaurants, and trails, where the travel time can carry some of the atmosphere of the destination itself.

The passenger version can be adapted for cargo and light commercial use through a modular platform. Rear seats fold flat, a canvas weather option is planned, and a lockable front box will replace the open basket for more urban buyers. The vehicle keeps the arrangement simple, but the details suggest a product built for changing needs across resorts, campuses, and compact communities.

Amble is already working on a second platform that will move closer to a conventional small car, with removable doors, a hardtop, and a lower roofline planned for a later release. For now, the One makes the stronger editorial gesture. It treats the electric buggy as a design object with its own language, shaped by material, weight, exposure, and the feeling of moving through a place at human scale.
