this mcdonald’s backpack comes with dedicated side pockets to carry your fries
inspired by mcdonald’s takeaway packaging, the oversized backpack features fries-carton side pockets, a ketchup compartment, and an oversized receipt.
A backpack designed for enjoying fries on the move
McDonald’s China looked to one of its own fans, craft blogger Daomeidan, and transformed a handmade backpack concept into an official limited-edition product. For the 2026 edition of its annual Big Fries Day campaign, the company released, through the McDonald’s App and McDonald’s Mall mini program, the oversized Big Fries Backpack, which celebrates both the brand’s signature fries and the creativity of its fan community.
Every element of the backpack references a familiar part of a McDonald’s order. The silhouette draws on the chain’s brown paper delivery bags, while oversized golden arches frame the front. Fries-carton pockets on either side let wearers snack while walking; a dedicated holder keeps ketchup packets within reach, and an oversized receipt hangs from the bag to complete the oversized takeaway illusion.
The release forms part of McDonald’s twelfth annual Big Fries Day, a campaign built around a Chinese linguistic coincidence. The traditional solar term 大暑 (Dashu), meaning Great Heat, is pronounced similarly to 大薯, meaning large fries. Since 2015, McDonald’s China has used the seasonal wordplay to anchor a yearly summer celebration featuring fries promotions, limited-edition merchandise, and in-store activities, gradually turning ‘eating large fries during Great Heat’ into an annual ritual for its customers.

How a craft blogger inspired an official McDonald’s release
The backpack stems from longtime McDonald’s enthusiast Daomeidan’s ongoing Meal Logs series, in which the blogger reimagines the fast-food restaurant chain’s packaging as handcrafted objects. Inspired by the delivery bags, fries cartons, and receipts, the maker has spent years creating McDonald’s-themed accessories and documenting them on social media while participating in multiple McDonald’s China fan conventions. According to the company, the backpack evolved from one of these independently developed concepts after McDonald’s launched a fan merchandise co-creation initiative during its 2026 Fan Conference, inviting community members to contribute ideas that could become official products.
Reflecting on the collaboration, Daomeidan explains that the backpack grew from a desire to reinterpret familiar McDonald’s objects through craft. ‘The inspiration for the giant fries bag came from my Meal Logs series,’ the maker shares. ‘This time, we used the theme of Big Fries Day to turn the giant fries box, takeaway bag, and receipt into a new story. Throughout the process, I felt that fans’ passion was truly seen by the brand and seriously responded to.’
