making its debut at the wörthersee festival in reifnitz, volkswagen has introduced the ‘design vision GTI’ – a concept race car capable of producing 503 horsepower. based on the seventh-generation model, the ‘design vision GTI’ is equipped with a turbocharged direct injection 3.0 liter V6 that develops a maximum figure of 413 lb-ft torque. coupled with a DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive system, the vehicle can reach 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.9 seconds – reaching a top speed of 300 km/h (186 mph ). volkswagen has fitted the hatchback with large carbon-ceramic brake discs, featuring integrated blades that are designed to vent hot brake gas through the wheel openings.

the C-pillar – which has always been a distinctive golf and GTI feature – is drawn outward as an autonomous design element, while the main part of the body narrows strongly towards the rear. the concept looks radical, because it’s shorter, wider, and lower than a regular GTI.

similar to the GTI front end, the radiator grille, the bottom air inlet, and the brake cooling vents are combined with the headlights and framed  by the front fenders and the hood. a typical red line divides the headlights horizontally, where a set back configuration giving the appearance of an ‘evil eye’.

like the front end, an all-round sharp edge is a consistent feature at the rear.

a number of controls have been integrated into the upper section of the center console: the switches and rugged turn knobs for climate control, the hazard light switch, and the activation for the on-board camera.
