Krasner and Pollock: Past Continuous
Lee Krasner and Jackson Pollock met in New York in 1941, then moved to Springs, Long Island, after marrying four years later. At The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Past Continuous follows their careers together through more than 120 works, giving each artist’s practice space while examining the exchanges between them.
The exhibition takes its title from a 1976 painting by Krasner. Pollock’s poured and dripped compositions appear within a longer artistic trajectory, while Krasner’s changing approaches to abstraction reveal her sustained interest in nature and color. Their shared life runs through the exhibition, followed by the years in which Krasner continued working after Pollock’s death.
