Adam Pendleton: Some Wild Kind of Language
Adam Pendleton brings eleven paintings and eight large-scale drawings into the historic spaces of the Stedelijk Museum for Some Wild Kind of Language. Many are newly made, extending his work with abstraction and fragmented language onto an architectural scale.
The presentation also changes the museum’s central staircase, turning its white interior into a black environment. Nearby, paintings enter into conversation with the collection and the histories of abstraction associated with the building. Pendleton’s layered surfaces invite the eye to move between a mark and a letter, carrying the act of reading into the experience of looking.
