1930s cider press screw becomes sculptural stool in reclaimed wood and brushed aluminum
le pressoir gives new life to a 1930s french cider press, reworking the agricultural object into a contemporary sculptural stool that brings its raw history into dialogue with refined aluminum craftsmanship.
Reclaimed wooden cider press screw forms sculptural stool
LE PRESSOIR is a sculptural stool by Studio Jumel in collaboration with Ariane Ronot, made from a French cider press dating to the 1930s. Rooted in Normandy’s apple-growing and cider-making traditions, the design reuses the original wooden screw mechanism as the stool’s four legs, retaining the aged texture and irregularities accumulated through decades of use.
A cross-shaped structure made from 3 mm-thick aluminum connects the wooden elements, contrasting the material’s precise finish with the timber’s weathered surface. Its openwork form references apple blossoms, while the seat’s helical profile echoes the original screw mechanism.

Brushed aluminum meets weathered timber in LE PRESSOIR stool
The design by Studio Jumel and creative Ariane Ronot combines preserved wooden elements with newly fabricated aluminum components, whose brushed, vibrated finish complements the texture of the reclaimed timber. Measuring 45 cm high and 42 cm wide and deep, LE PRESSOIR balances everyday function with a sculptural silhouette, retaining the physical traces of its agricultural past while giving the historic object a new role in contemporary furniture design.
