FIAT MULTIPLAY CONCEPT DEBUTS AT 2026 PARIS MOTOR SHOW
Fiat has unveiled Multiplay at the 2026 Paris Motor Show, a concept car that combines the space of an MPV, the character of an SUV and the versatility of a pickup truck. Measuring 4.45 meters in length, the vehicle explores how a single design could accommodate the changing needs of family life, from school runs to weekend adventures. At its heart is an adaptable architecture that allows the car to physically transform between two configurations. For now, Multiplay remains a design experiment rather than a preview of a specific production model.
The transformation revolves around a sliding rear module called Metamorfosi, developed around the vehicle’s C-pillar. Moving along dedicated guides, the structure converts the enclosed six-seat family configuration, which includes an additional multifunctional element, into a four-seat pickup with an open cargo bed. Bicycles, sports equipment and bulkier objects can occupy the newly exposed space. Even the rear spoiler has a second job, rotating into an integrated rack capable of carrying two bicycles.

FIAT MULTIPLA LEGACY RETURNS WITH FLEXIBLE SEATING
The concept revisits the unconventional spirit of the original Fiat Multipla, whose designs challenged expectations of how much could fit inside a relatively small car. The 1956 Fiat 600 Multipla accommodated six passengers within approximately 3.5 meters, while its 1998 successor arranged six seats across two rows in a body less than four meters long. Multiplay continues this fascination with spatial efficiency, although its approach goes beyond rearranging passengers to reconsider the vehicle’s entire configuration.
Inside, flexibility extends to smaller details. The so-called Petsenger seat can accommodate a child car seat, provide space for a pet, or function as a table or storage compartment. Part of its cushion can even be detached and used as a leash, while a folding bowl is tucked into the door. Another feature, the Sunseat, transforms the front passenger seat into a lounge chair when parked, using the dashboard as a backrest beneath the panoramic roof. Apparently, even the passenger seat deserves a little downtime.

WATERMELON COLORS AND MONOMATERIAL TEXTILES SHAPE THE INTERIOR
The color palette takes inspiration from an Italian summer, specifically a watermelon. Bright green bodywork recalls the rind, while red, pink and turquoise tones spread throughout the cabin. A soft pink floor and pixelated gradients introduce further contrast, turning the interior into a distinctly playful environment. Material choices follow a more practical logic, with monomaterial textiles produced through a stitch-free 3D knitting process intended to reduce waste. Waterproof finishes are incorporated into the areas designed for children and pets.
Large windows and a panoramic roof bring natural light into the cabin, while a horizontal dashboard references the Mediterranean horizon. Technology takes a comparatively discreet approach: the integrated display disappears from view when the vehicle is switched off, leaving a cleaner interior surface. Rather than introducing a new screen for every imaginable activity, Fiat uses Multiplay to investigate how adaptable architecture and multifunctional components might shape future mobility. Whether any of these ideas reaches production remains to be seen, but the concept makes a convincing case for giving family cars more than one personality.
