[FEATURED]

A SEVENTEENTH-CENTURY PARISIAN JEWEL BOX

The Prince de Conti hotel reimagines a 17th-century Parisian building, infusing it with contemporary interior design within the historic Saint-Germain-des-Prés district. With just 23 rooms and suites, the four-star hotel has little interest in playing by the usual rules. Instead, it borrows the extravagance of its five-star counterparts, packing rich textures, theatrical details, and a healthy dose of 17th-century drama into a surprisingly intimate setting. Think less conventional hotel, more Parisian jewel box with a flair for the dramatic. Its prime location places it steps away from iconic landmarks such as Notre-Dame de Paris and the Hôtel de la Monnaie.

The Paristory group, a family-managed enterprise led by sisters Alexandra and Julie Marang, owns the Prince de Conti. This hotel marks a significant expansion for the group, as it is their first property situated on the Rive Gauche, a neighborhood holding personal significance for the Marang family. The group already operates three successful boutique hotels on the Rive Droite, bringing their expertise in hospitality and refined design to this new venture in the heart of Paris.

REINTERPRETING HISTORICAL REFERENCES

The interior design concept at the Prince de Conti draws extensively on historical references, which are carefully reinterpreted through a contemporary lens. The result is a playful mix of bold colors, historical motifs, and carefully chosen details, where the 17th century gets a contemporary makeover. Rather than recreating the past, the interiors borrow its most theatrical elements and give them a new role, creating spaces that feel somewhere between a private residence and a period drama, minus the powdered wigs.

The 17th century makes its presence felt throughout, with nods to the larger-than-life characters and events of the period. Rich wood finishes, elaborate tapestries, and sumptuous fabrics set the scene, borrowing a few tricks from the French aristocracy’s decorating playbook. Historical references are given a contemporary twist, bringing a touch of old-world extravagance into the present without turning the hotel into a museum.

AN INTIMATE AND TRUSTING EXPERIENCE

No two rooms tell quite the same story. Each of the 23 rooms and suites is treated as a miniature stage set, with its own character, decorative details, and historical references. Theatrical touches abound, but the scale remains intimate, making the experience feel more like stepping into an eccentric private residence than checking into a conventional hotel.

That sense of informality extends to the hotel’s honesty bar, where guests can help themselves to wine, spirits, or other drinks and simply keep track of what they’ve had. No bartender, no elaborate rituals, just a little old-fashioned trust. It’s a refreshingly relaxed touch in a setting that otherwise takes its decorative drama rather seriously.
