MICROHOME 2027

The 12th edition of the MICROHOME competition invites architects, designers, students and creative minds from around the world to reimagine small-scale living. Participants are challenged to design an innovative, sustainable and self-sufficient modular home for two people, with a maximum floor area of just 25 m².

The competition encourages participants to explore how thoughtful planning, sustainable materials and efficient use of space can create comfortable, functional and inspiring living environments. Designs should respond to contemporary housing challenges and demonstrate how a small home can support a high quality of life.

Participants are free to explore different architectural styles, construction methods and technological solutions. Proposals should be adaptable and designed to operate off-grid, reflecting the growing need for more sustainable ways of living. The competition welcomes both individual entries and teams of up to four members, including multidisciplinary teams.

PRIZE

All winners of MICROHOME 2027 will automatically qualify for the annual Buildner Medal 2027, where they will compete alongside selected winners of other Buildner competitions for a share of the €50,000 prize fund.
