design week jerusalem 2010: time 02 exhibition

located in the abandoned basement of the 19th century hansen hospital in jerusalem, ‘time 02’ is an experimental group exhibition that offers a platform to graduates of the country’s various design schools to show their work on a public scale.

the show – curated by tal gur and initiated by david keller– aims to reveal the rich but complex environment within the city. designers were given the title ‘jerusalem as a source of inspiration’ as a basis to create their one-off pieces.  resulting is a diverse body of work that explores and engages in the city’s present social, political and religious realities.

intended as a way for young israeli designers to hone and develop their narratives, the show also gives them the opportunity to integrate into the field, an often challenging task in israel where opportunities in industrial design are scarce.

the exhibition is a part of design week jerusalem and is on display now through december 17.

‘jerusalem clock’  by atar brosh, ohad banit and merav shnaps displays the hour and minute along with other important times throughout the day such as prayer

‘tradition progress’ by etay amir is a reaction to religion in the context of contemporary culture

‘permanent temporary’ by ron yosef uses blue polythene, a material common in jerusalem due to the city’s constant development and restructuring
