design [r]evolutionmusée des arts et métiers, parisjune 4th – 16th, 2013
from june 4th-16th, 2013, the historic musée des arts et métiers in paris will be home to ‘design [r]evolution‘, an exhibition presenting the work of a select group of international designers from france, sweden, the netherlands, the united states, switzerland and belgium as part of the designer’s days paris program (june 4th – 9th). curated by élodie palasse-leroux, the pieces on show will either have been specially commissioned for this occasion, or are being presented in france for the first time–the prototypes and realized objects range from a solar powered lantern by alain gilles, to a device by mathieu lahanneur which explores the potential applications of micro-energy, to furniture and textile designs.
the participating designers include:mathieu lehanneur, yves behar, kiki van eijk, färg & blanche, staffan holm, alain gilles, adrien rovero, claudia caviezel, erik arlen & ludovic roth, marc thorpe, marine peyre, miha studio, fabrice berrux, atelier cocorico. see more about each of them and the products and ideas theywill be presenting here.
the overall scenography of the design [r]evolution is realized by arro studio, who has drawn on a modern graphic language to bridge the gapbetween the museum’s permanent collection and the contemporary pieces of the ‘design [r]evolution’ exhibition.
‘from a pedagogical standpoint, people are not used to seeing contemporary design within the museum; we had to find visual tricks obvious and accessible enough to address the largest audience and help them decyphering the origins of design‘, explain erik arlen and ludovic roth. ‘arro studio’s mission was mainly to explain and illustrate where new ideas come from, giving a hint of how important design has become in our way of life.’
