in andrija večenaj’s master thesis for the faculty of architecture program at university of zagreb, he investigates whether old dying crafts such as willow basket weaving can be revived through the power of design. in his proposal, večenaj presents a bird’s nest concept symbolizing the human measure within a living space. miniature models are made from sorghum – a plant that is used in manufacture of traditional brooms – affirming the possibilities of conceiving a seating arrangement capable of enhancing and providing a protected spatial environment. the nest-style chairs wave like free-flowing fibers, filtering and creating visual stimulation in a play of light and shadow.
