specializing in temporary construction, japanese industrial company, dawia lease with yatsutaka yoshimura has developed ’emergency disaster vehicle’ (‘EDV-01’) as self-contained shelter for easy transport and autonomous use around the world in case of any situation. conforming to the specifications of shipping containers, it can travel by land, air or sea. once delivered, the self-contained assembly takes less than five minutes to be fully working. a hydraulic lift raises the outer shell, creating a two-story edifice ready for use without additional construction. the dwelling consists of a kitchen and bathroom on the first floor, and living or sleeping area above. equipped with solar panels, hydrogren fuel cells, a lithium battery for energy storage, the self-sufficient construct needs no supplementary electricity. an 800 liter water tank, composting toilet, and drinking water station are sufficient for a month of inhabitation by two adults. upon removal, these self-contained systems and composting toilets leave no trace. satellite communication devices allow refugees to be completely autonomous in the average month it takes for reconstruction to be implemented. currently, daiwa lease is working to make the footprint more compact.
