muhammed ali and his wife lonnie have commissioned artist michael kalish to create a sculpture for them celebrating the famed boxer’s accomplishments. the result is ‘reALIze‘, a 360-degree, two-story structure that is composed from five miles of stainless steel, two miles of aluminium tubing, and 1300 boxing speed bags. from almost every angle, the result appears to be a massive, boxing-inspired rainstorm, but when standing in the right position, the installation portrays a 2D vision of muhammad ali’s timeless face. ‘reALIZE is a collaboration between los angeles-based oyler wu collaborative together with kalish, on show at the the nokia plaza across from the staples center in los angeles from march 25th to april 9th, 2011.
