the institute effect at the lisbon architecture triennale becomes a living, changing homage to the contemporary institution. intended as a constantly changing stream of activity, 12 different organizations have been invited to takeover the exhibition space, hosting a public programme of their choosing, and taking consecutive turns in changing the dialogue of the temporary atelier. set up as a fictitious establishment, institutare is designed by the first participants — communication group fabrica— featuring everything necessary to host events, from a workshop area, archive, blog and library to tools and stationary with five rules that each congolomerate has been asked to follow. over the course of three months visitors can participate in activities as diverse as exploring new forms of pedagogy in an action colloquium, visit a re-imagined 1:1 construction of a mexican architecture gallery, or experience lisbon through a series of citywide interventions.

challenging the role and context of the term ‘institution’, the furniture, visual identity and digital services provide a modular framework, which can be adapted and re-arranged according to the approaches of the 12 other guests. visitors will make appropriate artifacts and graphic material superimposed over the basic fabrica system, exploring creative interpretations of an inclusive association that accommodates different languages, cultures and goals.
