french artist jeremy laffon creates complex structures out of a highly unusual material: sticks of chewing gum. the constructions are assembled from heaps of gum, piled and assembled in various ways. in an upcoming exhibit from september 21 to october 26, 2013 at interface, dijon, france, laffon presentes ‘colapse(s)’, a solo show featuring his chewing gum sculptures. the exhibition showcases a new structure: an elongated torus, with infinite, interconnected layers of stacked strips. the alternating yellow and green pieces formulate a stable configuration with rounded edges that endlessly integrate into themselves. using the same medium, but with a different visual result, laffon’s previous work includes a scaffolding-like structure with twisting towers, which designboom covered here.
