italian practice IaN+ has completed the ‘falcognana elderly center’ located in falcognana, italy. situated within the periphery of rome’s urban center, the complex’s shallow profile and nature inspired coloration aims to seamlessly transition from the urban landscape into the nearby countryside. two trapezoidal volumes situated on a gently sloping hill are linked by an easily accessible stair and ramp. the perimeter’s glazed walls allow natural light to enter and simultaneously provide residents with a continuous connection to the exterior environment.

the facade contains alternating panels of translucent glass which compliment the rust tinted beams. horizontal structural elements extend from the roof line and appear to fold at a sharp angle, joining with the corresponding angled columns. the facade contains alternating panels of translucent glass which compliment the rust tinted surface of the concrete beams. delicate steel cables are strung between the repetitive elements allowing plants to form a continuous vegetated overhang to eventually provide a shady terrace for dwellers.
