japanese practice studio noa has completed ‘house in kikuicho’, a single family home in tokyo, japan. enwrapped in a corrugated exterior skin, the residence seeks to disconnect itself from the dense surrounding environment, while benefiting from the effects of natural light and ventilation.

front facade

raised from the face of the unit, the translucent cladding softens incoming light and blurs the visibility of both passerby’s and inhabitants. where in view of neighboring structures and street-level traffic, the milky surface extends over the windows to obstruct the view, while other less-compromised openings remain exposed.

stairs leading from entrance to second level

conceived as an open environment, the residence features permeable and loosely defined spaces that

allow the family to be in contact with each other at all times. the kitchen, living room, and dining room

are hosted on the second level, flanked by the principal bedroom and entrance below, and children’s

rooms above.
