bristol-based artist camila carlow intricately sculpts human organs from vibrant varieties of wild plants, flora, vines and berries. ‘eye heart and spleen’, a project meant to contemplate the miraculous work taking place inside our bodies, reveals the living organisms as fragile, exquisite forms carefully constructed from organic materials and even small found woodland creatures. amongst the photographic representations of the vital structures are mossy ferns weaved into a gut, an eyeball crafted from purple flowers and a tiny, living snail, and a delicate set of lungs composed of twisting vines and layered leaves. the collection of artworks are currently exhibited in the main halls of the fromeshaw gallery, frenchay hospital.
