the renovation of the ‘atlas sports center‘ by paris-based firm yoonseux architectes enables a tactile and immersive experience, forming an immediate relationship between body and mind. located in paris, the original building was built in the 1970’s and due to its dilapidated state it needed to be remodeled. the narrowness of the volume and the lack of views to the outside were overcome by the creation of flowing spaces and a phenomenological play on the senses. the interior of the old sport’s center was completely redone, and the main pool area features a bulbous surface across its walls and ceiling. this tactile experience is enhanced by the use of one material throughout the space. acoustic comfort is also maximized through the pin-ceiling and the wall echo-system, their visual rhythm creating a sense of harmony with the exposed concrete beams. a high level of attention to detail was paid to produce a calming atmosphere, sure to invigorate the senses.
