from its cliff-top perch ‘syukou fujisawa gallery and café’ forms a viewing platform overlooking kudaka – the sacred japanese island of the gods. designed by john pawson, the mixed program is divided between different buildings, establishing in a skillful composition of circulation, light and materials.
exhibition space is divided between two levels with the larger upstairs gallery designed to house a private collection of work by syukou fujisawa, a japanese calligrapher. the first floor café window protrudes from the gallery, oriented to directly face the adjacent island. the site will eventually include a house offering impressive views across the ocean.
