among dozens of other specially created products and designs at the ‘pinned up’ exhibition at the stedelijk museum in amsterdam, marcel wanders’ debuts the ultra-lightweight ‘carbon balloon chair’. appearing for the first time in europe, the seating piece is made using carbon and epoxy resin, conceived as a challenge to create the world’s lightest chair. weighing a mere 800 grams, ‘carbon balloon chair’ is handmade using balloons filled with compressed air, which are later hardened with epoxy resin to give the chair its final shape. ‘pinned up’ will exhibit these works, along with 400 design pieces — the largest-ever survey dedicated to wanders — until june 15th, 2014.
‘carbon balloon chair’ is available as an exclusive personal edition for wander’s label, which carries work of a more experimental nature.
