‘misara’, which means three plates in japanese, is a porcelain plate shaped to combine three dishes. it is based on an old japanese meal called ‘ichi-ju san-sai’. ‘ichi-ju’ means one soup and ‘san-sai’ means three kinds of dishes. it has been passed down to the present day as ideal balanced meal.
‘misara’ is designed for the ‘san-sai’, three types of dishes. the design makes it is easier to set and clear the table because everything is combined into a container.
the design also takes into account the essential staples of the japanese diet. the wide part of misara plate is large enough for a slice of bread to be placed on and made shallow enough for food to be easily to eaten out of. the back side is characteristic concavo-convex form, where a ‘finger hole’ prevents items from falling out, making it easy for individuals to hold the item with a single hand. it is also designed with small lipped bowl for soy sauce and a small plate for seasoning, typical to most japanese cuisines it expresses a strong connection to the small plate and plate design.
although the form of misara has minimized all unnecessary elements, the glaze produces a soft mat tone to the surface and a modern humorous impression as well. misara is manufactured in the seto-aichi prefecture one of representative porcelain producers of japan. while mass production is taken into consideration, the completeness in which each shade differs delicately is the essence of the charm of porcelain. we expect that such product will create serene and joyful mealtime. it is dishwasher and microwave safe.
