situated in a small provincial town near tokyo, japanese architect terunobu fujimori has crafted a private home clad entirely with a soft metallic coat. entitled ‘soft-hard zinc house’, the property is flanked by two typical residential structures, allowing the striking premises to catch the eye. the gabled end of the dwelling is dramatically cantilevered, providing space for parking at ground level, while a small garden is found at the rear of the design.

the scale of the home is comparable with its surroundings, with a considered and efficient use of space and material throughout. externally the structure is clad exclusively in aluminum, while internal walls and surfaces are finished with white plaster. the design features a number of wooden details, while minimal windows result in a strong sense of privacy and seclusion – further establishing the residence as a warm and intimate retreat.
