the lily chairs stacked

when stacked the lily chairs function as a single chair, they can then transform to become two separate chairs. by further division these become two japanese style dining table/chair sets. this versatile ply-formed furniture is the latest creation of glasgow-based designer david ross.

the lily chairs are designed to make the most of available space and to encourage communication through communal dining resulting in increased happiness and wellbeing.

designer david ross said: “research showed many people were living in accommodation which wasn’t large enough to have permanent dining areas. without this communal dining space even those living in shared accommodation were finding themselves dining alone or in front of a tv. “many people are therefore missing out on one of the most regular social activities key to keeping happy and healthy – eating together”.

the chairs can be separated to become two individual chairs
