‘mocho’ by joão timóteo and helena fernandes is a traditional portuguese bench. two modules are constructed by a pair of vertical supports with different sized v grooves cut into their top and bottom edges. connecting their two sides are a set of horizontal joists that add stability by preventing any bending from occurring as loads are transferred towards the ground. the height of the bench and the quantity of people it carries determines the length of the tree stump.

the size of the bench is determined by the amount of users and length of the tree
designed for scenarios where people are surrounding a campfire in the woods or enjoying a relaxing night at home by the fireplace, an included saw allows the length of the bench to be trimmed down and used as lumber to feed the flames. afterwards, the parts of the structure have the ability to perpendicularly interlock with one another, making the object easy to place in storage.
