haifa-based OGE creative group has revealed ‘house of cards,’ a light installation that will travel around the globe, promising to be different in each city by displaying various sets of cards according to the local environment. currently in front of the hurva, jerusalem’s oldest synagogue, the work resembles the kid’s game, where players stack cards upon each other in a triangular fashion until the whole structure becomes unstable. for the site, designers merav eitan and gaston zahr have piled up 126 cards that create a 10 x 7 x 5 meter structure that is entirely modular and can be continued indefinitely. each individual card measures 90 cm x 150 cm and is built as a double-sided, ultra-slim light box, illuminated from inside with ultra-bright LED technology. the deck of cards chosen for jerusalem present biblical figures that were illustrated by the famous painter and illustrator, jean david, in the 1970 for el al airlines.
